The Ins And Outs Of Website Hosting And How It Will Help Your Business

If your web host is not reliable, visitors will be unable to see your website at times. This is just one of the various reasons why selecting a good web page hosting company is very important. This article can help you find a great hosting service.

Find out which plans are offered by each potential web host you're considering. Free sites often prohibit scripts that generate dynamic content. If you need a scripting page that is dynamic, you probably need to find Tsohost Promotional Code a pay host instead.

Make sure to register your site's domane Tsohost Promotional Code name independent of your host site, so that you can retain control of it if there is ever a dispute between the two of you. If you register your domain with your host, your host will control the registration instead of you.

When you choose a hosting company, select one that resides in the specific country of the audience you are targeting. For example, if you want to sell things to people in Ireland, then you should choose a web host that has a data center in Ireland.

Are you considering hosting your website with a free hosting provider? Back up everything on your site, since many free hosts don't have backup services. You get exactly what you have paid for in this case. You risk losing your files entirely. If that happens, there is not much you can do about it.

Want a website that's safe? It may be worth getting a certificate for a server that's secure. You will be able to add a button to your site and your visitors will be informed they enter a secure zone and will be more likely to trust your site for making transaction or giving their personal information.

Be very clear on what an unlimited service package actually offers. For example, when a web host offers unlimited disk space, there might be limitations on the file types that are allowed. The unlimited bandwidth claims may actually be part of a tiered pricing system. Always obtain all the information and restrictions with these plans, because unlimited is rarely truly unlimited.

Many factors influence your smart decisions about a web host provider. If a viewer is trying to obtain access to your site, and cannot do so reliably, it is not going to reflect well on your business. The advice you found in this article can help ensure that the host you choose is the perfect match for your needs.

have migrated to or are planning to migrate to Office 365. Microsoft EMS features include mobile device management, advanced identity tools, document encryption and tools to help detect threats.

Device management

Just a few years ago, there was a clear difference between mobile devices and desktop devices. Tablets have blurred the line, with Apple and Android devices scaling up to tablet size from smartphones, Windows 8 and above scaling down to tablet size, and Windows 10 providing a common platform across phone, tablet and the desktop.

With Microsoft EMS. Intune is Microsoft's answer to the problem of managing all these end-user devices. Intune provides core mobile device management (MDM) functionality, such as ensuring the device's continued security, managing profiles for email and VPN access, restricting the functionality for the user, deploying applications to devices and providing sandboxing of applications to allow personal and corporate applications to coexist.

Securing and managing devices is critical to most organizations, because the loss of data could result in heavy fines, breach of legislation or loss of revenue.

In addition to base MDM features, Intune works with Exchange Online and Exchange Server on premises to ensure that only managed devices can connect to Exchange. This is called conditional access and allows admins to create policies to ensure that only compliant devices, such as those connected and reporting their status, can receive email.

Without Microsoft EMS. If you don't add Intune to your Office 365 subscription, all is not lost. You can still utilize the fairly capable functionality provided with Exchange Online ActiveSync to enforce device PINs or remotely wipe devices. These features are only aimed at ActiveSync emails and do not cover non-email usage, and will not provide any visibility into the current device status.

Office 365 MDM fills the gap between ActiveSync's base functionality and Intune. Office 365 MDM is based on Intune and uses the same management applications on each device. It includes functionality to ensure corporations can manage mobile email policies for Exchange Online users, along with advanced features such as conditional access.

What you don't get is the application deployment and management capabilities of Microsoft EMS. If you want to deploy and manage Outlook for iPad, for example, evaluate the full Intune provided with EMS.

Information right management

You can use information rights management (IRM) functionality to encrypt files and documents and enforce restrictions on what a recipient can do with a message. The IRM technology in Office 365 and EMS, Azure Rights Management Services (RMS), is natively supported by modern versions of Microsoft Office. It can help protect email and other files, such as images, via the RMS sharing application. Azure RMS uses AES 128-bit encryption to encrypt files. Rather than require users to maintain keys, Azure RMS grants access based on the Azure Active Directory (AD) identity.

With Microsoft EMS. If you purchase EMS, you'll get the Azure RMS Premium version. This adds additional functionality enabling on-premises file servers to use File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) to automatically apply RMS to files. To make use of this functionality, the FCI deploys the RMS connector, connecting the Windows servers to the Azure RMS infrastructure.

Powerful end-user functionality is also included with the EMS version of RMS. Users can choose to revoke access to documents at any time -- handy if the wrong version of a document was sent or the person with access no longer has a need to access the content. The ability to track usage is also included. This is particularly handy when the document is being distributed to a wide audience.

Without Microsoft EMS. You get most of the functionality you'll need in Office 365 without adding EMS. The Office 365 integrated RMS that comes with the E3 plan includes the core functionality required to protect Office 365 data. For example, that means administrators can define templates to prevent reply-all to email messages, stop forwarding, remove the ability to print or copy a document, or edit. Users can elect to use the templates as-is or create their own combination of protection settings.

In addition to protecting files and email in the Office clients, the ability to protect email messages in Exchange Server is baked in. As an administrator, transport rules can be configured to protect mail using RMS if needed. Within SharePoint Online similar functionality can also be configured. Documents are not encrypted within SharePoint Online but certain document libraries can be configured so that when a document is downloaded, it will automatically be protected by RMS at the time of access.

If you are running Office 365 in hybrid mode, with on-premises Exchange or SharePoint servers, the included RMS Connector applies the same protection.

In addition to RMS, another IRM technology is included, Office 365 message encryption. This provides the ability to configure a transport rule to protect certain messages using HTTPS-based encryption. A protected message sent by email has the content removed and replaced by a link to a specific Office 365 portal. The message contents can then be read securely, protected by a HTTPS channel.

Azure Active Directory

The service that stores user information for Office 365 is known as Azure AD. This is often synchronized to the local on-premises Active Directory using a tool known as Azure AD Connect. Password hashes can be synced to Azure AD along with user details, or an on-premises installation of Active Directory Federation Services can be used to ensure that the user IDs mirrors in Azure AD use the local AD to verify passwords.

With Microsoft EMS. EMS adds Azure AD Premium. This adds a range of functionality, including self-service password reset with write-back to the local AD for all users, multifactor authentication for all Azure services and even on-premises applications with advanced controls, self-service group management, advanced reports and alerts and security controls to restrict where logins can occur from. The reports within Azure AD Premium allow security teams to identify user logins from unusual places and potentially uncover compromised accounts.

Azure AD Premium also includes licensing for additional tools. Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) -- formerly Forefront Identity Manager -- allows for advanced on-premises identity management. If you have a compatible HR system, you can connect it to MIM and use it to provision accounts or keep the accounts up to data with current information.

Azure AD Connect Health adds in additional functionality to ensure your on-premises Active Directory remains healthy. Installed alongside Azure AD Connect, the health module provides alert management, performance and usage patterns.

Cloud App Discovery is useful when attempting to expand the list of applications managed by Azure AD. Installed on user desktops, Cloud App Discovery monitors the cloud-based services users' access to provide detailed analysis helping administrators discover which existing applications could be brought under the control of Azure AD.

Without Microsoft EMS. Office 365 comes with Azure AD Free. This provides all the out-of-the-box capabilities for synchronizing directories with local AD, customization of login pages and for Cloud IDs --logins that are not synchronized with a local AD domain -- self-service password reset and multifactor authentication when logging into Office 365.

In addition to using your Azure AD with Office 365, you can also use applications with support for login with Azure AD identities -- including Salesforce and Dropbox.

Advanced Threat Analytics

Advanced Threat Analytics (ATA) is a component within Microsoft EMS that has no equivalent or basic version in Office 365. ATA is firmly aimed at on-premises Exchange deployments. ATA runs on on-premises servers and reports into the cloud. It looks at the daily behavior within your organization and detects malicious threats or security issues.

These Microsoft EMS features provide a lot of additional functionality on top of the core Office 365 capabilities. Pay attention to what you do get -- many organizations find that the out-of-the-box capabilities of Office 365 are good enough. Like any technology, understand if you truly need it before you buy.

When To Upgrade PCs: 4 Tips For A Smart IT Strategy - InformationWeek

Figuring out a corporate-wide PC upgrade timetable has never been easy for enterprise IT managers. These days, cloud-based applications and evolving Bring Your Own Device policies are among the factors complicating your decision-making process. Here are four tips to help you determine the best PC refresh strategy for your enterprise users.Windows 10 Laptops, Hybrids Grab The Spotlight At CES 2016

Windows 10 Laptops, Hybrids Grab The Spotlight At CES 2016

(Click image for larger view and slideshow.)

Figuring out a corporate-wide PC upgrade timetable has never been easy for enterprise IT managers. Ideally, the sweet spot for an upgrade is right before employee output begins to suffer due to slow, unreliable, or incapable hardware. Easy to say, not so easy to do.

Employee duties vary widely from user to user -- and from one department to the next. If you're in charge of determining PC-refresh timelines, you probably have your power users identified, and you're likely using a fixed rotation schedule. In my experience working with IT professionals, a fixed upgrade schedule is no longer the best PC replacement method. Cloud computing and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies are among the factors changing user behavior, and directly impacting how you approach your PC upgrade strategy.

These days, your PC fleet should be evaluated annually, and upgrades should be budgeted based on these four key factors:

1. OS Upgrade Strategy

Over the past few years, I've noted that the primary reason why many IT departments were replacing employee PCs was to coincide with a major Operating System upgrades. For example, moving from Microsoft Windows XP to Windows 7 by replacing not only the OS, but also the hardware, was seen as the path of least resistance to get end-user buy-in. The same can also be said if your enterprise is ready for the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

[What you need to know about USB Type-C. Read USB Type-C: Not All Cables Are Created Equal.]

By and large, a clean installation of a new OS is a better option than an in-place upgrade, which can have adverse and unpredictable effects.

2. Quality of Current Hardware

If your users aren't running into frequent hardware problems, it's easy to justify holding off on purchasing new PCs. But if you find your IT team is struggling to keep end-user PCs running properly, you have to consider new gear. To figure out what's right for your organization and your users, you need information about what's happening throughout your PC fleet.

A robust service desk ticketing system that tracks various hardware failures -- and the amount of time spent working with each end-user to resolve hardware-related issues -- is essential for figuring out the total expense of maintaining PCs that are past their shelf life.

(Image: alphaspirit/iStockphoto)(Image: alphaspirit/iStockphoto)

It's also important to measure lost productivity every time users have PC problems and can't perform their work.

These analytics -- generated using IT support software Gartner Research calls IT service support management (ITSSM) tools -- are invaluable when performing a simple cost/benefit analysis. After crunching some numbers, you might be surprised to find a full replacement of employee PCs is far less expensive in the long run than constantly patching up older PCs that have been proven unreliable in the field.

3. New Hardware Features

In years past, many peripherals -- including printers, scanners, plotters, and other devices -- were constantly changing input types with little to no backward compatibility. These presented a key reason to upgrade your users' PCs.

These days, many printers, scanners, plotters, and other devices are network connected, rendering moot any concerns over input types.

Still, standards are changing, and there are legitimate reasons why users must upgrade to new hardware in order to take advantage of the latest PC input/output ports. For example, the USB 3.1 standard offers users faster data transfer speeds and increased power-over-USB compared to previous versions. Additionally, the USB 3.1 standard introduces a Type-C interface which changes the physical plug connectors for many newer peripherals.

4. Legacy Applications, Mobile Apps, and the Cloud

Application upgrades that run locally on PC hardware also influence whether or not you should upgrade PC hardware for your end-users. If an application upgrade requires a significant boost in memory, processing, or graphics power, it may be the primary factor in deciding to upgrade this year.

Keep in mind, however, that enterprise applications are increasingly performing complex computing operations on backend servers. Many organizations are also making use of cloud-based software-as-a-service applications that require minimal computing power for end-users.

Depending on your application portfolio, you might be able to squeeze another year out of your currently deployed PCs.

It's equally important to monitor user behavior, to see if their PC usage is changing over time. Smartphone and tablet use through progressive BYOD policies within many organizations are pushing users away from the PC and onto mobile devices. Additionally, applications themselves are being reworked so that they can operate on lower-performance mobile devices. In many cases, the only option for PC users is to access applications using a Web front-end that requires very few computing resources.

The corporate-issued PC is becoming nothing more than a simple keyboard, mouse, and monitor portal, which connects to backend servers that handle the bulk of the processing power. That's why we see companies waiting for a catalyst event -- such as a major OS upgrade -- in order to justify new hardware.

Some enterprise IT professionals I've worked with also question the need for company-issued PCs in the first place. As it did with company-issued smartphones, BYOD may soon render corporate issued PCs a thing of the past. For now, be strategic about your upgrades, and only purchase when the timing is right.

What's your PC-refresh strategy? Is it driven by a major OS upgrade? Are you analyzing user behavior and helpdesk support metrics to determine upgrades on a user-by-user basis? What challenges do you face in figuring out when to upgrade? Tell us about it in the comments section below.

20 tips for Windows 8.1 - CNET

Now that we've all got over the shock of big, bright, animated tiles in Windows, Microsoft has released version 8.1 as a refinement of its vision of a unified multi-platform operating system. There are a few tweaks of note, both in its surface appearance and deeper down, and these tips will bring you right up to speed with what's new and updated in the latest operating system.

1. Use the Start button

Let's start with the Start button, reinstated in 8.1 after being omitted from Windows 8. It actually doesn't do much more than the old bottom-left hot corner did, but many will find it reassuring anyway -- click the Start button to bring up the Start screen (or to go back to the desktop), or right-click to access key system sections (such as the Control Panel and Task Manager).

2. Boot straight to the desktop

While we're on the topic of undoing all the changes Windows 8 brought about, let's talk about booting straight to the desktop, now possible in Windows 8.1 for those with an aversion to big sliding blocks of colour. Right-click on the desktop taskbar, choose Properties and then open up the Navigation tab -- tick the top option under the Start screen heading to boot to the desktop (and return to it when there are no apps open).

3. Customise the Start screen

If you are a fan of the Start screen, there are now more options for customising it -- you can name individual groups of shortcuts, access more shades of colour, and switch between three app tile sizes. Right-click on the Start screen and choose Customise to change group names and tile sizes; open the Settings charm and choose Personalise to access the wallpaper and colour options.

4. Make playlists from Bing

If you haven't already noticed, Microsoft is very keen on integrating its premier apps as closely as possible. Try searching for your favourite artist in Bing using the Internet Explorer Start screen app; with the results on display, open the Share charm. You'll notice there's a Music option there to create a playlist based on the artist you've searched for, which can come in handy when you're checking out the best new band of the week.

5. Check app sizes

Open up the Settings charm, then choose Change PC settings > Search and apps > App sizes. Windows 8.1 presents you with a list of your currently installed apps, with the biggest at the top -- this can be useful if you're looking to free up some space on your hard drive (or tablet's flash storage) and want to know what you can cut.

6. Use the Reading View

Windows 8.1 comes bundled with the all-new Internet Explorer 11, and if you're running it in Start screen mode you'll notice a chunky book icon on the right of the address bar when viewing certain pages. Click this icon to enter Reading View, where adverts and unnecessary paraphernalia are stripped away to leave only the content you care about. You can also send articles to the new Reading List app from the Share charm.

7. Get your libraries back

The File Explorer in Windows 8.1 isn't quite as keen on libraries (music, videos, photos and so on) as its predecessor. Open up File Explorer to find the newly renamed 'This PC' view, then choose View > Navigation pane > Show libraries to bring them back on the left-hand side.

8. Create a lock screen slideshow

One of the neat new features in Windows 8.1 is the ability to set up a slideshow of pictures on the lock screen rather than one static image. From the Settings charm, choose Change PC settings > PC and devices > Lock screen. Switch the slideshow option to 'On' and you can specify a local folder or SkyDrive folder to source images from.

9. Set a universal wallpaper

Get the feeling that your desktop backdrop would look equally fetching on the Start screen? No problem -- Windows 8.1 lets you use the same picture for both. Choose the Personalise option from the Settings charm on the Start screen and you'll see your current desktop wallpaper appear as the final option.

10. Save to SkyDrive

Microsoft is very keen for you to make use of its SkyDrive app, and with 8.1 it's more integrated into Windows than ever before. From the Settings charm, select Change PC settings and then open up the SkyDrive page -- the options here enable you to use SkyDrive as your default save location, upload photos automatically and sync configuration settings across multiple PCs.

11. Edit your photos

Microsoft has been busy at work on many of the Start screen apps, including Photos, which now includes basic editing tools. Select an image from the Photos app to open it, then right-click and choose Edit to access a variety of tools, filters and adjustment options.

12. Restart apps

In Windows 8, dragging the top of a Start screen app down to the bottom of the display closed it. In 8.1, this makes the app disappear, but it remains running in task manager in case you need it again. You can use the same action to restart an app, but instead of letting go of the mouse button at the bottom of the screen, keep hold of it. The app card will flip over, at which point you can bring it back up on screen to restart the app.

13. Disable hot corners

The 'hot corners' let you access touchscreen swipe operations (like opening the charms bar) with a mouse, but you can turn them off in Windows 8.1. Right-click the desktop taskbar, choose Properties and then open the Navigation tab. Under the Corner navigation heading, you can disable the top left (open apps) and top right (Windows charms) corners.

14. View the full apps list by default

As well as launching the Start screen or the desktop when your PC boots up, you can choose to launch the All Apps screen instead (normally found by clicking the small down arrow in the lower left-hand corner of the Start screen). You'll find an option for this by right-clicking on the taskbar, choosing Properties and opening up the Navigation tab.

15. Make quick calculations

Click the down arrow in the lower left-hand corner of the Start screen and you'll find the new Calculator app included in Windows 8.1. You can use it full-screen or keep it in a docked window for making quick calculations -- here's a standard view, a scientific view and a conversion tool that covers volume, length, weight, temperature and more besides.

16. Create a system image

Windows 7 and Windows 8 both included a system image backup tool, but at first glance it seems to have disappeared in Windows 8.1. It hasn't actually vanished, but it has been well hidden. Launch the desktop Control Panel, then choose System and Security > File History window and the System Image Backup option is down in the lower left-hand corner.

17. Set alarms

Windows 8.1 includes a new Alarms app that will wake you up in the morning or remind you to take the dog out for a stroll. If it's not visible on the Start screen, click the downward arrow in the bottom left-hand corner. You can configure repeating alarms, set up a countdown or run a stopwatch. Note that alarms will only ring when your PC is awake.

18. Dock your apps

Windows 8 let you dock two apps alongside each other, but Windows 8.1 lets you arrange three, and adjust the dock sizes at the same time. Drag an app from the top down to the side of the screen to dock it. You'll notice many of the Start screen apps have mini-modes that they can revert to.

19. Switch off universal search

Enter a keyword or two into the Search charm and you'll be presented with a cornucopia of matching results from your PC, Windows settings and the Web. For a less expansive, less stylised experience, disable the online component via the Settings charm > Change PC settings > Search.

20. Get more help

Perhaps in recognition of all the Windows 8 users who were perplexed by the Start screen, Microsoft has built a special Help + Tips app into Windows 8.1 to make it easier to find your way around. If you can't find it on the Start screen, click the down arrow (bottom left) to see the full list of installed apps. Help + Tips should be available under the first Apps section. If you've installed Windows 8.1 for a friend or family member, you can fire up this app and then bid them a good evening.

Ways To Select A Dedicated Web Server Company

What exactly do you need? Do you want to run a Windows or Linux dedicated server? How much hard drive space and computer memory should the server have? What about the processor, how much bandwidth should be included, what networking interface should the server use? A few factors cannot be fully answered at this time but some can. If you plan to migrate a website you know the requirements of that website. You also know if it is a high traffic site or uses lots of system resources like computer memory, hard drive or processor at the old site. Dedicated servers are usually a good choice if the current hosting situation, may it be a VPS or shared hosting account, limits the growth of the site or the user experience. Requirements like computer memory or cpu are harder to judge. High traffic sites benefit from lots of computer memory and a fast cpu but there is also chance for an overkill. Running a blog with 100 visitors a day does not justify a high end dedicated server with 16 Gigabytes of RAM and Intel Dual Harpertown processors. A very populated forum on the other hand would benefit highly from that setup. The most important process in the selection of a dedicated server is the choice of the hosting provider. Quality and services differ widely and extensive research is suggested before making the selection. It is not enough to compare hardware and prices alone, other factors are of even bigger importance. What good is a dedicated server that is unreachable for most of the day because of overselling or poor infrastructure?

What Type Of Web Hosting Do You Need?

Some, such as kidney damage thought to be caused by powerful poisons released by the bugs and arthritis triggered by a faulty immune response, occur within weeks. Others, such as high blood pressure, take years to appear. Long-term: Salmonella, E coli and other types of food poisoning may have lifelong consequences Experts say the chance that the link is coincidental is remote - and are calling for more to be done to identify victims of food poisoning and monitor their long-term health. Others say that prevention is key - and better hand and food hygiene would cut the number of cases of food poisoning and so the number of people left with lifelong complications. Why are so many seriously ill women misdiagnosed with IBS? GPs mix it with endometriosis, Crohn's and even cancer... Almost 90,000 cases of food poisoning are recorded each year in England and Wales. However, the true number is likely to be closer to one million, as only a minority of victims will visit their doctor and give a sample that will be logged in the official statistics. Common bugs are E coli, usually caught from eating undercooked beef including mince and burgers; campylobacter, found in raw and undercooked meat, especially chicken; and salmonella, which is found in eggs, meat and milk. Studies have linked E coli (pictured) to kidney failure and diabetes While they can be fatal, most people recover after a few days. But this months issue of Scientific American warns that even a short bout of sickness or diarrhoea could have long-term consequences. Studies have linked E coli to kidney failure and diabetes and campylobacter to bowel problems and Guillain-Barre syndrome, a potentially fatal condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves, causing muscle weakness and paralysis. Salmonella has been blamed for a form of arthritis. Scientific American says: It is a scary idea that food poisoning - which we think of as lasting just a few days - could instead have lifelong after-effects. The incidence of such sequelae, in medical parlance, has been thought to be low, but not many researchers studied the problem until recently. New findings by several scientific teams suggest the phenomenon is more common than anyone thought. Figures are still relatively scarce. But one of the most stunning and persuasive studies was carried out on Canada after thousands of men and women became ill from drinking water contaminated with manure. A government-funded study found that, eight years later, those who suffered severe diarrhoea due to the dirty water were more than twice as likely to have had a heart attack or stroke than those who were unaffected or only mildly ill. Their risk of kidney problems was more than three times as high. They also had greater than normal odds of high blood pressure.

As the Web hosting industry has matured, hosting offers have split into a few distinct categories, each with strengths and weaknesses. The host manages the server almost completely (though you maintain your site and your account). They can afford to charge you little since many clients are paying for use of the server. However, companies other than yours use the resources of that server. That means heavy traffic to one of the other sites on the server can hammer the performance of your site. Also, you typically are unable to install special software programs on these types of machines because the host will need to keep a stable environment for all of the clients using the server. Co-located hosting means that you buy a server from a hardware vendor, like Dell or HP, and you supply this server to the host. The Web host plugs your server into its network and its redundant power systems. The host is responsible for ensuring its network is available, and you are responsible for support and maintenance of your server. Good hosts offer management contracts to their co-location clients so that you can outsource much of the support to them and come to an arrangement similar to managed dedicated hosting. Most co-location hosts do not offer this service, however. You can find co-location providers we recommend at our Co-Location Hosting showcase. Unmanaged dedicated hosting is similar to co-location except that you lease a server from a host and do not own it yourself. Some very limited support (typically Web-based only) is included, but the level of support varies widely among unmanaged dedicated hosts. This type of server can be had for around $99/month. Support levels typically are provided only in general terms. Ask the host to go into specifics about what support it will provide will it apply security patches to your server? before signing up. This service is typically good for gaming servers (like Doom or Counterstrike servers) or hobbyist servers, but not for serious businesses that need responsive, expert-level service. Managed dedicated hosting means leasing a server from a host and having that company provide a robust level of support and maintenance on the server that is backed by quality guarantees. This maintenance typically includes services such as server uptime monitoring, a hardware warranty and security patch updates. Ensure that your managed dedicated host is specific about its managed services so that it does not disguise an unmanaged dedicated offering as a managed dedicated server. This has been known to happen, which is why it is important to do your homework and ask the right questions.
